Parent Engagement Program and Activities 2019-2020

Meeting times and dates will be advertised with flyers, on the website, school announcements, and school messenger. Meetings will be held after school with rotating timed sessions so parents can attend varied areas of interest. For additional services to attend our meetings, parents may contact Kelli Wesley at Wesley.kelli@newton.k12.ga.us or Chris Williams at Williams.chris@newton.k12.ga.us. AHS will host the following events to build capacity for strong parental involvement to support the partnership among the school, parents, and the community in order to improve students’ academic achievement.

Mental Health Awareness, Work Force Talks, & Improving Literacy– January 23, 2020 at 6:00 PM
Parents can meet expert teachers who can assist in preparing students for career and college by improving study habits and test taking strategies. Students who are planning on not attending college can hear from people who are in the work force.

Parent conferences on early release days – February 7, 2020 
Parents can schedule individual conferences with teachers to monitor student progress and discuss state standard requirements.

Annual Title I Input and Revision Meeting: March 26, 2020 at 6:00 PM
Parents will get an opportunity to give feedback regarding the Title I School-wide plan, school and district and school parent and family engagement policies, parent-school compacts CLIP and parental involvement budget.

Parent Resource Room
Our Parent Resource Room is located in the guidance office of Alcovy High School. The Parent Resource Room is available during school operation hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Computers are available for use as well as printed educational resources from previous meetings and additional printed resources.

Parent Supports for Student Achievement
Conferences with teachers that can be scheduled at any time as well as two designated days during the year to set up conferences with teachers.

Free Parent Publications Research-based newsletters and a calendar that provide practical, proven information for parents, on a comprehensive array of school success topics.

Parent and Family Engagement Policy

Parents are an integral part of a child’s education and at AHS we provide parents with multiple opportunities for parent to become involved and impact educational decisions. Parent meetings will be held throughout the school year on topics that will assist in helping their child’s academic achievement. Parents may provide input and suggestions using the following: Parent meeting surveys throughout the year, Online/ written surveys in the Fall, Regular parent-teacher communication in core academic areas, School Council meetings, Open House and Curriculum Night, & school website.

Stakeholder Input -we want to hear from you. Do you have any suggestions for how we can best research out to, communicate with, and work with you as an equal partners? Do you have any suggestions for our Parent and Family Engagement Policy, Parent School- Compact and/or Parent and Engagement Funds? If so, please provide us with your comments on the Stakeholders' Input form below and leave this form in the office or send it in with your to school with your child.
